Who Are We?

KIDS-FOR-KIDS 2009-2010

Kids-for-Kids is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization established in 1995 by Carly Rothman of Princeton. Kids-for-Kids is now run by groups of local teens. Kids-for-Kids currently has seven established chapters: three chapters in West Windsor (High School South, High School North and Grover Middle School); the Hopewell Valley Central High School Chapter in Hopewell; a chapter at Columbia High School in Maplewood; and new chapters at the Robbinsville High School in Robbinsville, New Jersey; and The Lawrenceville Academy.

The mission of Kids-for-Kids is to conduct fundraisers and community service projects benefiting needy children. Kids-for-Kids has raised over $150,000 in fourteen walk-a-thons. Money from the walk-a-thons is used to buy new backpacks and school supplies for needy children in New Jersey, including children at the Laurie Haven House in Edison, the Anchor House Shelter in Trenton, The Crisis Ministry in Trenton, The Children’s Day School in Ewing and Project Paul in Keansburg.

Kids-for-Kids also conducts a variety of non-fundraising events, including drives for toys, art supplies, toiletries, baby supplies, pajamas, coats, sneakers, board games, canned goods, towels, socks and underwear. In the fall of 2001, Kids for Kids organized The 911 Book Project, which provided inscribed children’s books on grieving to orphans of the September 11 attacks. Kids for Kids is also involved in tutoring, mentoring, most recently at the Trenton After School Program. This group also does local volunteer work at the Crisis Ministry Food Pantry in Trenton, including stocking items, assisting clients and delivering food to homebound customers.

Kids-for-Kids also hosts parties and field trips for children at local group homes and shelters. Every year Kids-for-Kids assists in providing a Thanksgiving Luncheon for students at The Children’s Day School in Ewing and takes children from the Laurie Haven House in Edison to a performance of A Christmas Carol at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton. In the past, Kids for Kids has also taken children from group homes to Sesame Place and to see productions of the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty by the New Jersey Ballet Company.
